Review of Samiya Cafe
We visited Samiya twice, in 2022 and 2024. The place is quiet and cozy, with different bustling groups of diners chatting around the area.
The cafe also has a wide selection of different cuisines - Indonesian, Japanese, Western and various mouthwatering cakes and desserts.
Service was very prompt and we got our drinks fairly quickly after ordering. In 2022 we tried the Beef Ribeye Steak, and this time in 2024 we tried the Duck Confit and Pasta Aglio e Olio.
Its a yes from us! The food and atmosphere justifies the price point and we even got banana split for dessert.
Definitely will return!
Review of hummingbird eatery and space
Google reviews said it was all the rage so we took a fancy for this place.
The place is huge and clearly used for events as there were ongoing parties while we were there. This means it can be quite loud depending on where you sit, and the time taken to serve your food is probably longer than expected.
That being said, the food was fantastic. We had a couple of different mains including the Slow Roast Chicken, Soto Tangkar Iga Sapi, 8 Hour Braised Ribs and a few more dishes including appetisers. The Soto Tangkar Iga Sapi was really good, the beef was so soft it practically fell off the bone, and the braised ribs were very tender too. The slow roast chicken was well seasoned and tender.
One of us ordered a cocktail and the staff came and made it in front of us - the banana rum cocktail which was pretty fancy. We also got the strawberry mojito but felt it was a tad too sweet.
Overall, very well established place, we would definitely go again, however, probably not the best place for a quiet conversation with all the events around!

Review of Tiga rumpun
Dropped by for breakfast one morning and was pleasantly surprised by what we got. Bandung is full of wonderful nooks and crannies and discovering this was wonderful!
The place is decked out like a place from the 80s and 90s, where our grandparents’ would run their kitchens. Even the cutlery and utensils are also following the theme!
We ordered the Bubur Ayam Panggang (Chicken Porridge) and Mie Bebek Panggang (Duck noodles).
The chicken porridge was nice but a little too much sauce added for my liking.
For the duck noodles, we liked the noodles but the duck was a tad dry.
We would probably visit this place again but try different foods. The tea and coffee were good, though!
04 Kapulaga bistro
Visited this place twice, food was amazing.
Ordered for 20 people to eat!
Highly recommended!
Nasi Liwet Komplit - if you are ordering in, this is a great choice
Nasi Bakar Komplit. The rice is done very well, the anchovies make the dish fragrant and savoury without being too oily.
The first time, I went with a large group - the food was served very quickly and despite it being made about 30mins to 1h ago, the food was very fresh and warm. The atmosphere of the place is also welcoming. When we went, it was Christmas and the place was decked out wonderfully with Christmas vibes.
This time, we also ordered another round of food and it was as great as we remembered it!
05 Midori Japanese Restaurant
There’s a couple of outlets to this - we went to this branch here.
By 7pm it’s dinner service, the place is quiet and there were couple of people going in and out. The building hosts the restaurant below and a massage place on level 2.
Food was served quickly. We ate so fast we forgot to take pictures (oops).
What we liked:
Chasoba - I think this was unexpectedly our favourite.
Crispy salmon - there’s kremes (crispy bits) that is scattered all over the lightly grilled salmon. It was amazing. We previously ordered this two years ago and it still is as good as what we ordered then.
Unagi - this was gone from the plate pretty quick, I think that means it was good!
A great coffee bar and place to hangout and talk at night. We went to Jabarano Pahlawan branch. There was a treehouse on top, an outdoor section. There’s also an indoor section but that fills up fast.
The service is great and orders are fulfilled very quickly. Payment for this cafe is through e-payments so if you don’t have QRIS/ShopeePay/Dana/Ovo.
We ordered the Iga Sapi and the Ayam Bebek. They were both relatively good, large enough portions and filling. The cafe makes great drinks too, we got a pot of tea as well as a berry smoothie. Unfortunately it was dinner hours so we didn’t get to try the coffee but given that there are different branches in Indonesia, we will be back to try the coffee the next time.
Other honorable mentions:
Ampera - people kept telling us to eat here
Kupat Tahu Gempol - didn’t get to have a picture of this, but the food was amazing. Small roadside stall with a crazy queue that sells out super quickly.
