Penang: A Great Gastronomical Getaway
(Latest update: 6 December 2024)
This is going to be a short post! I cannot believe this is the first Penang post we are making after having been there many times, in many ways it feels like a second home of sorts. The list will be updated as we keep going back!
What you can DO there:
Chew Jetty (And jetty hopping) -
Tech Dome at Komtar Tower
Straits and Oriental Museum - a privately owned museum collection that has wares collected from various sunken ships and other areas. The tour guide was very insightful and incredibly engaging to listen to!
Wares from the Straits Oriental Museum
Penang International Food Festival (comes occasionally)
Buy Tau Sar Peah!
Cheong Fatt Tze, The Blue Mansion (you can go for a tea tasting session!), it’s also a hotel you can stay at if you’re feeling up for it.
What you can EAT there:
but really, just look at that
Penang Road Famous Chendol - of course!
Chong Qing Lao Huo Guo
What we did not get to do / eat this time but will return for it!
Batu Ferringhi Beach
Some of the night markets like Paya Terubong Night Market
Where we stayed
We stayed at Urban Suites Penang, a new condominium development that is quite near to the airport.
Things to note:
It’s quite unbearably hot in Penang, even in November, so bring the relevant gear like umbrella, sunscreen and a cap.
It is tough to get around Penang without a car, of course you may walk, but given the heat, it is a good idea to get Grab or Gojek taxi services around the island. Both Grab and Gojek applications work in West Malaysia.
